You can smell a funny gas type of smell
When a brand new appliance is installed, there initially can be a funny smell. That is normal for the first few times it's being used as the elements are getting hot for the first time and 'burning off'. What isn't normal however, is that a gas heater that smells funny and it's not a new one. This can mean that gas is leaking out and not igniting properly. Why isn't your gas heater starting properly?
Over time, everything suffers from wear and tear and your gas heating system is not different. Like anything, with a lot of use and the older it gets, the more care that is required to keep any appliance working like new. Just because a gas heating appliance is old, doesn't mean it should have issues such as starting.
